iMovie

iMovie App Logo_Fotor

iMovie is a video editing software application created by Apple and comes pre-installed on Mac computers and iOS devices.

It is an incredible application, which provides basic, ‘no-frills’ editing tools to put together a movie from a set of video clips. You are able to import video footage using either the FireWire interface on most MiniDV format digital video cameras or the computers USB port. iMovie can also import video and photo files from a hard drive. You are able to edit the photos and video clips and add titles, themes, music and effects, including basic colour correction and video enhancement tools and transitions such as fades and slides.

Students can share and publish finished iMovie projects as movies to any number of social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, or through iTunes.

Another fantastic way to use iMovie, is to record yourself reading a text and then insert your recording into iMovie. If you have students with hearing difficulties, you can import a video of yourself (or someone else) signing! A great YouTube demonstration on how to do this can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60RqTYp4xhQ&feature=youtu.be

A classroom activity using this resource:
The myCreate app allows students photos, pictures and drawings to come to life on their iPad or iPad Mini. They can be the director. Students can upload photos and turn them into a time-lapse, photos, pictures and drawings can become the background to short animations. They then can use the drawing tools in the app to add an animation and are also able to adjust the colour options of their work. It uses easy frame management to create animated stories or informational animations. Students can create amazing, life-like animations and playback their creations in the app. They are also able to export their work via Apple TV, email or onto a EWB using a projector app.

This app is extremely engaging resource that allows students to be creative and innovative in a fun and simple way.

  • English – They can create stories, and animated movies.
  • Science – As a presentation demonstrating a Science topic e.g. Time-lapse growth/death of a flower.
  • Art – A tool to create life to their art work.
  • Drama – After planning a story students could take photos or make drawing and crate an animation of these.
  • Health, Humanities and Social Science can be intergrated by creating an animation relating to a specific topic e.g. Life of a flower, cyber bullying.

How to use this resource

  • Have students plan their story or what they are wanting to present e.g. time laps of a flower, cyber bullying animation etc. Download the app myCreate through iTunes.
  • Walk through the steps with the students on your iPad.

1. Open myCreate app on your device.
2. Click on “Add new creation”.
3. Enter a name for your project.
4. Begin taking pictures on the blue frame.
5. Your pictures will show on the timeline at the bottom. You can drag them and rearrange them.
6. Students then need to decide how long they wants the frame to stay on each picture. To increase the amount of time, click on the picture in the timeline and then click the + button. This will duplicate the picture.
7. Once finished, and their pictures are in order they can add sound. To add their voice click the microphone at the top and start recording. Repeated until the desired recording is made. To add music go to the library by clicking the musical note and choose a song.
