A classroom activity using this resource

This local museum loans out artifacts that represent the community over time.  One example are slate chalk boards students use to use in the classroom to write on.

Alternatively there are many great educational excursions including  from tree to me that shows the orange juice making process. or home made cleaners that could be compared to shop brought ones of today.

How to use this resource

In the classroom students could explore what they think the artifacts are and what they were used for and a time period they were used.

Students could then discuss how the design of the item has changed over time and why.  EG slate board to pencil and paper to iPad??

Lastly they could redesign the item to suit their needs/ wants.

A classroom activity using this resource

Digital storytelling is a fantastic way for students to present all different types of information. Narratives, retells and text adaptions can all be presented digitally. The planning and editing are still a major part of the project.

What I think is an even more valuable use of digital storytelling is the presentation of research. One fun way this can be presented is through an interview using PuppetPals. Imagine an interview with Ned Kelly with Glenrowan as the background. Students would need to come up with good interview questions as well as the answers.
While digital storytelling has been around for a long time, using various computer programs, it has never been easier than with an iPad.
Just some of the excellent apps for digital storytelling include PuppetPals, Toontastic, Book Creator, SonicPics, Strip Designer, Little Story Maker, iFunFace, Tellagami, I can Animate, Stop Motion, iMovie, Comic Book, Little Bird Tale

How to use this resource

puppet pals

I used puppet pals app in my year 3 class to produce a interview info piece to raise awareness of the impact the NSW bushfires had on people and the economy.

Once you have an iPad with the app downloaded it’s very easy.

1.Select up to four actors you want to have in your show.  Alternatively you can take a photo and cut yourself out.

2. Select a background. or download one from the internet or again take a photo.

3.Open stage. move the characters around. shrink or enlarge them. you can also make backdrop larger or smaller.

4. Hit record and record your story.  you can pause to change backdrops or characters.
